Music Picks for the Weekend… Yolo County?!?

Why is it that the hot shows this weekend are in Yolo County? OK, there is that Constants (Lost theme band) + Four Eyes show at Luigi’s tonight that is darned appealing, but the pure pop elegance of the Finches just can’t be denied. Even in Davis.  Heckasac informs us that there have been some lineup changes, but assures that main songbird Carolyn Pennypacker Riggs is still at the helm.

Then Sunday offers all the insanity that is Operation Restore Maximum Freedom, KDVS’ daylong music fest. Local faves English Singles will be on early, while Seattle noise stars the A-Frames will be topping the bill. In between is a mix up of musical acts ranging from Rank/Xerox, Mucky the Ducky and the UC Davis Gamelan Ensemble. ORMF is a guaranteed good time, just be sure to bring sun block!

Mattress TONIGHT at Luigi’s Fun Garden

Hello all,

Tonight (Friday, Sept 26th), MATTRESS from Portland, Oregon will be playing live at Luigi’s Fun Garden with Green Green, Sister Crayon and Dead Western. He has a great new record out on a Canadian label, as well as a 7″ released on local label, Malt Duck. Recommended if you like lo-fi synth and pop. Mattress has been compared to the likes of Suicide and Nick Cave. You could also add Blank Dogs to that list. Show starts at 9pm, 18+ and it’s only $5!

I will see you there, with a beer in my hand and a song in my heart.

Watch the “El Dorado” video.
