Here are some bits and bobs that I have picked up over the last few weeks. I got kind of obsessed with the abandoned Sacramento Savings building at L and 5th. I am sure it’s slated for demolition, so I took a few pics for posterity.
Chester the Cheetah is wearing Chester the cheetah shoes!
Some dude totally made fun of me for taking those pics. JERK! I am going to blow the Chester pic up poster sized and hang him on my wall. I know beauty when I see it!!
Speaking of, they were removing the facade of the building at P street and the tracks and revealed an older business. Pretty cool.
Some careless giant left his boombox in front of Phono Select!
And I will once again abuse my blog privileges by asking if anyone can identify this flowering vine spotted in Southside. So pretty!
!Que Onda! Head on over to the Sac Central sometime before August 7th to see the American Sabor Exhibit, a very thorough examination of Hispanic influence in popular music. Presented by the EMP (Experience Music Project) and the Smithsonian, the display is packed with information presented in a really fun way. I learned that Sam The Sham is Mexican-American and not Egyptian at all!
It covers all different types of music, from my beloved Latin jazz master, Tito Puente
to the always fabulous salsa singer Celia Cruz
to psychedelia
and punk.
It is really worth checking out. And of course, like everything at the library, it’s gratis!
