Sacto Fashion Blogroll
Posted on November 8, 2010 – 2:18 AM | by OldManFosterBy Melody Stone
Sacramento might never be hailed as the fashion capitol of the world, but we’re moving toward becoming the best fashion-capitol city in the United States. Documenting our ever-growing array of designers, boutiques and fashinistas/os are a group of dedicated bloggers, determined to cover Sac’s fashion scene on their own terms. These are the fashion bloggers of Sacramento and they are many, each with a unique focus, style and voice. These stylish people are taking fashion media into their own hands, rejecting the mainstream and instead declaring style trends of their own.
So, who are these bloggers? Here’s a look some of the most dedicated:
Blog Description: Vintage and thrifted outfits, fashionable events and happenings in Sacramento, and personal style posts. Bella organized a fashion blogger meet-up at Crimson and Clover in September and about a dozen bloggers showed up to mingle, compare notes and do a little shopping.
Personal Style: As the name implies, Bella heavily features floral/rose themed items on her blog. She posts pictures of outfits and inspirational pieces about fashion trends. She’s drawn to re-purposed and vintage/thrift finds, encouraging stylish sustainability.
Time Blogging: “I started blogging about three of four years ago, not as focused as it is now,” Bella said. “About a year ago I discovered the personal style blogs, this sort of explosive democratic style media.” So she made a commitment to do at least three posts a week for a year.
Why Blog?: “I really think it’s something huge,” Bella said. “[The Internet] has literally transformed our culture. Fashion blogging didn’t really exist until 2006, the first… personal style post was in 2007. [Before] If blue was in, blue was in because they told us. Now, with this global access to all people, fashion has to listen to the buyers.”
[Editor’s note: Bella is a sometime contributor to Midtown Monthly.]
Real Name: Angeline Evans
Blog Description: Frugal fashion for the workplace. Young professional blogging about office fashion and workplace etiquette. Evans said that while her blog is about workplace fashion and balancing self expression with being professional she really loves her posts about professional development. “It’s something I’m really passionate about and enjoy talking about,” Evans said. One of her personal favorite posts is on becoming indispensable at work.
Personal Style: Clean classic pieces, button up shirts, solid colors, pencil skirts, and blazers.
Fashion Challenges: “The biggest challenge for me is finding things that fit well,” Evans said. “There’s also the cost issue. I shop at outlets a lot. I got a suit for 40 bucks once.”
Real Name: Natale Eve Smith
Blog Description: “It’s a fashion blog – but I also do a lot of do-it-yourself crafts and inspiration pieces. Right now I’m writing a post about old hand-me-down grandpa style sweaters. It’s really just inspiration for other people to go through their grandparent’s closets.”Personal Style: “I would say it’s pretty relaxed. I don’t dress as cool as the stuff I’m interested in,” Smith said. “I’m not so outgoing, so it doesn’t fit my personality even though it really interests me. I wear lots of jeans. I’m not really girly.”
Years Blogging: Since May, 2010
Why blog?: “I started reading a lot of blogs really consistently last year. I wanted to just start something so I could start sharing what I was reading about and do my own inspirational stuff.”
Crimson and Clover Boutique

Real names: Kara Perez (Porkchop Rules) and Nicole Honeyeater (Flaming Hag Folkwear)
Blogs and Boutique: Perez and Honeyeater make, find, and buy all the treasures in their shop, Crimson and Clover (Q St across from Fremont Park), blog about the process and share their personal styles and daily ensembles. They both maintain their own blogs, and keep a blog running for the shop.
Personal Styles: Perez said she’s influenced a lot by Honeyeater’s hobo-chic style, but because she’s heavily tattooed she has to work with her body art.
Why Blog?: Perez said she started blogging as a way to show of her prints and jewelry designs, now she also posts pictures of her various ensembles. “A lot of people want to see what you wear,” Perez said. “I like showing the finds and what I’m making right away. It’s funny and silly, I don’t take it totally seriously. It’s fashion and fashion is suppose to be fun.”
Real Name: Kari Shipman
Blog Description: This blog has links to all the other worth-reading blogs and features clean, informative updates with a focus on personal style and local business. Shipman is a personal stylist and helps organize various fashion shows and fashion-related events in the community. Last year she teamed up with Sac Cycle Chic’s Lorena Beighter to put on Velo and Vintage at Hot Italian. The bicycle fashion show was a huge success and the girls are planning round two to take place in May 2011 in honor of May is Bike Month.
Why blog?: “I’m a very creative person, and enjoy most forms of artistic self expression,” Shipman wrote on her blog. She said living in a city like Sacramento allows her to be really engaged in businesses and culture and she wants to document that.
Real Name: Erin Sierchio
Blog Description: “It’s basically a blog about everything design,” Sierchio said. “Fashion, interior, graphic, industrial, product…you name it.”
Personal Style: “I wouldn’t say that I’m super stylish or anything. I’ve been described by friends as ‘boho chic’,” Sierchio said. “I’m honestly a jeans, simple shirt and flip-flops kind of gal.”
Years Blogging: Fashion blogging since October 29, 2009
Why Blog? “I started a music blog back in January of 2008, but found that it was too specific and that I really wanted to write about everything that inspires me – so I started Bows & Sparrows.”
What’s in a name?: “Back when I first heard that Olivia Coelho was opening her vintage store Bows and Arrows, I misheard the name and thought it was called Bows & Sparrows. I thought it was a brilliant play on words. Turns out, that wasn’t the name of the store, but I still loved the name…so, I decided to use it.”
