R.I.P. Andy Ekstrom

We just heard the very sad news that Andy Ekstrom has died.  We first met Andy when the MARRS Project was just opening up – Ekstrom was the go-to guy for most aspects of the complex, and he was unfailing in his efforts to help us when we were looking for anything pertaining to the complex, or any other issue related to Midtown/Downtown development.

That was his reputation – a very friendly, helpful guy who always seemed to go a bit further than most to help.  Ekstrom was a familiar face in Midtown/Downtown, and was a true booster for the smart development of Sacramento’s core.  He will be remembered, as one friend put it, as “a true and honest gentleman.”

We don’t have word on a memorial service yet but will post when information becomes available. [Done -edit]

As I was debating moving to the MARRS Project, I brought my dad up to offer a second set eyes before I made a final decision. After we met with Andy, my dad commented, “that kid is 1 of the few honest people I’ve seen in this idustry”. Since joining the MARRS project, Andy was a smiling face everytime I saw him, always presenting fresh ideas. It was good to see a fellow Aggie making his place in the business world. I just wish I had more time to discuss more non-work related topics. I know those conversations would’ve been great. Peaceful Travels Andy!

I am still so shocked by this news!!! As a resident of midtown I can not begin to tell you how saddened I was when I heard of Andy’s passing. He was ALWAYS a shining light in our neighborhood and I joked that he was “the mayor of midtown”. He will always be that and so much more in the hearts of those who knew him…

I just heard the news about Andy and still in disbelief. Andy was a great guy and his passing will be a great loss to all is friends and loved ones as well as Midtown Sac(the town mayor). He was so young and I would never have expected the loss of such a young gentleman. I send my warmest regards and wish his family well.

Great man, great friend. Just one testament to his immense, caring character; my wife, who only had the chance to hang out with Andy a handful of times, has cried herself to sleep the last two nights. No question she hasn’t been the only one.

I met Andy about 1990 – he was a great friend to my daughter Kristin. I considered him my “son.” He ate many Sunday evening dinners with the family. I loved his humor, intelligence and love for life. I will miss him – my heart is broken.

I met Andy over ten years ago when we were both rookies at Morgan Stanley. He was my roommate in Manhattan for three weeks. We would get up every morning and take the bus to the World Trade Center to attend training classes on the 66th floor. Everyday at lunch Andy I went across the street and bought Falafels from a street vendor. I walked the entire city with Andy and he was a great roommate and a quality human being…a great guy with not a mean bone in his body. This world is a lesser place now and the bell tolls for all of us.
