Around town
Posted on June 6, 2011 – 3:28 PM | by gee whzHere are some bits and bobs that I have picked up over the last few weeks. I got kind of obsessed with the abandoned Sacramento Savings building at L and 5th. I am sure it’s slated for demolition, so I took a few pics for posterity.
Chester the Cheetah is wearing Chester the cheetah shoes!
Some dude totally made fun of me for taking those pics. JERK! I am going to blow the Chester pic up poster sized and hang him on my wall. I know beauty when I see it!!
Speaking of, they were removing the facade of the building at P street and the tracks and revealed an older business. Pretty cool.
Some careless giant left his boombox in front of Phono Select!
And I will once again abuse my blog privileges by asking if anyone can identify this flowering vine spotted in Southside. So pretty!

That Sacramento Savings building was the first private (non-government) building constructed as part of the redevelopment of Capitol Mall (aka the demolition of the West End.) A kind of interesting irony that it is currently vacant and probably in worse condition than the building it replaced (the Alameda Theatre, I think.)

Total guess, but big white bracts look a little bit like a dogwood flower. Google Cornus.
