Editor’s Letter, April 2010

So, the Old Timey Issue.

It was probably only a matter of time before we got around to a history-themed issue – given the history-nerd makeup of our editorial staff and contributors, I’m actually surprised it took this long.

The idea for the Old Timey Issue sprung from the realization that 1910 was really the end of an era in Sacramento. Exactly one century ago, the city found itself on the verge of huge changes- changes that would completely redefine the City of Sacramento. Read more »

Ah, my buddy Rebecca was dead wrong, making the same mistake that many of you may have made in regard to Sacramento City Dry Goods…that is, disregarding it because it’s in Old Sac and has a nebulous name that could be easily misinterpreted.   Unless you’re super-into historical reenactments- or just wander into every Old Sac store you see- you’ve probably glanced over it too. The Sacramento Room and Center for Sacramento History

Archives and libraries have often been regarded as musty vessels of dreariness, replete with pinch-faced attendants who either shush visitors speaking in normal voices or seem unable to direct them anywhere but the rest rooms.  Not so in Sacramento where there are a host of these institutions that provide stimulating and exciting material and guidance to both residents and visitors alike.
